My name is Martie Liter Ogborn, with the help of the publisher we re-released my dad's books written before he died in 2008. The novel Rainy Day Lover is now available on Amazon in an eBook. The following is a review by Molly Martin
Writer Bob Liter presents a very different side of his talent in this offering to the one found in his Nick Bancroft mystery series. Rainy Day Lover is an excellent work filled with enough plot twists, duplicitous characters, and intrigue. The reader is drawn into the narrative from the beginning and is held fast to the ending lines in this appealing little chronicle. Liter's descriptive writing style sets vivid mental imagery for the run-down apartment complex where Melissa goes to begin her new life after the near assault she endured. Liter's crisp writing sets the stage for the taut interaction between Jud and Melissa.
Summary: When the bosses' son sexually harasses Melissa Morgan, she flees to a tiny town where no one knows her. Melissa takes a job trying to return a run-down apartment complex to its former glory. Handyman Jud Wheeling is far too good-looking to be ignored, despite Melissa's best efforts to do so. Before long, Melissa finds herself face-to-face with Carleton Chase, the son of her former employer and a determined headstrong woman from Jud's past, Addy. Melissa does not know whether to be angered, dismayed, or heartened at the appearance of either. Jud refuses Addy's advances, Melissa thwarts Carleton and life continues much as it had with too little money and too much to do before returning the Lovin Arms Apartments to presentable condition.
Melissa meets Jud's parents and is astonished to realize he has not been entirely straightforward with her. Carleton resurfaces to show himself the despicable rounder he is before Jud and Melissa finally realize the apartment complex has come to mean more to either of them than just a job.
I particularly enjoyed the tension-filled dialogue between the pair. At times Melissa's contumacious snappishness was almost overwrought, however keeping in mind the situation she had just escaped added realistic understanding for her excitable behavior... The Carleton Chase character was presented with the right amount of conniving and time to show him to be a very unlikeable cad. Rainy Day Lover is a book for a lazy afternoon filled with sunshine, music, and an entertaining read to indulge in. Reviewed by: molly martin
